Thermal Transfer Wax, Wax/Resin, Resins Ribbons
Thermal Transfer Ribbon Materials. Thermal ribbons come in three main different knids. The transfer ribbons are available in wax, wax-resin and pure resin. These different kinds are made for printing on different label materials and also used when the durability through harsh environments or life of the label needs to be long.
Wax Ribbons are made for printing on primarily paper labels, or specially treated plastic labels, and will last up to a year. The labels will last the longest when kept in dry places and not be exposed to certain chemicals or oil, which can disolve the wax imprint.
Wax-Resin Ribbons can produce a more crisp imprint and will go on very smooth surfaces such as smooth paper, coated paper labels, or specially treated plastic labels. The imprint is more durable than wax however and may withstand slightly harsh indoor environments.
Pure Resin Ribbons are created to be durable and made to imprint on plastic labels such as polyester, polypropylene and vinyl. The ribbon is designed to lightly meld with plastic surface of the label which can make it very durable, depending on the plastic material used. It is able to withstand harsh environments as well as the harsh outdoor environments.
